On the 29th September 2018, a group of 30 passionate students from Compassvale Secondary School, Changkat Changi Secondary School and Ping Yi Secondary School embark on a once-in-a-life-time journey to Boeing Flight Services Campus in Singapore to experience what it was like to fly a commercial jet plane in a state of the art flight simulator. The learning journey started with a safety briefing and the students subsequently met up with Boeing Southeast Asia President, Mr Skip Boyce who gave a very inspiring speech to the students in taking aeronautical engineering as their career of choice.

The group of students went to 3 different stations to experience to what it was like to be a trainee pilot, having the opportunity to sit in an actual cockpit to experience flying in different flight scenarios such as take-off and landing. They were also given the opportunity to see what it was like to work behind the scene in a hangar via a simulated virtual reality platform where they get to explore different parts of a plane – without having to be physically present in a plane! The true-to-life visual effects and the simulated haptic feedback provided by the mechanical simulator have definitely brought learning of flight and aeronautical to a whole new level. The students were all captivated by the sheer exposure to flight technologies throughout the learning journey.

The visit ended with the organising team from Boeing, BWIL (stands for “Boeing Women In Leadership” who envision to empower women to lead in the engineering field), showcasing inspirational videos to motivate our young minds to set their career goal in the aeronautical industry – joining Boeing as future employees.
